nice speech. of course, sousa was a fuddy duddy and phonographs had no such effect. there exist phonographs, and lps, of thousands of musical groups in every genre and subgenre of music thinkable. as it takes, as lessing says, a $1500 computer for kids to make splicey video things, it took some relative amount of money to go into a drugstore recording studio and record your klesmer doo wop band. technology and creativity have always coexisted in some sort of harmony/contention, and heck yeah to creative commons, whatever that is exactly.
